THE A9 has fully reopened following a serious accident in the Highlands last night.

The accident happened at the Slochd junction near Tomatin last night.

The northbound carriageway had been completely closed with one lane of the southbound carriageway also closed for a period.

Police Scotland said the route is now open in both directions following what they described as a serious collison.

In a statement they said: “The public are thanked for their understanding and considerate approach in avoiding the area to allow officers to complete the investigation.”

Police have not given any details of casualties at this stage.
