A9 reopens following car fire north of the Dornoch Bridge

The A9 was closed in both directions immediately north of the Dornoch Bridge for around an hour after a car fire broke out just before 3pm on Wednesday.

Police and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) were called to the scene at Cuthill and motorists were briefly advised to "approach with caution and use alternative routes is possible" before an update shortly after 4pm to confirm the route had reopened and the car had been removed.

A spokesperson for the SFRS said it received a call about the fire at 2.58pm and two fire engines – one from Dornoch and the other from Tain – attended the scene.

Firefighters used four breathing apparatus and two hose reels to tackle the blaze.

The spokesperson added that the fire involved one car and no casualties were reported.
