THREE people have been taken to hospital in Inverness after a two vehicle crash on the A9 near the Slochd summit.

The busy road was closed for a time following the collision between a Peugeot van and a Renault Scenic at around 9.30am.

Sixty-mile diversions were in place while the site was cleared.

There was heavy snow in the area at the time of the crash, although it is not yet known what caused the collision.

"Three casualties were taken to Raigmore Hospital where they are not deemed to be in a life threatening condition," said a police spokeswoman. "No further details are available on the casualties at this time.

"Drivers are thanked for their patience during the road closure."
