POLICE have warned motorists that a section of the A82 "must be closed for a couple of hours" after a lorry crash earlier today.

Officers have advised motorists to expect delays when the lorry is being recovered, but added that the recovery operation has been delayed until 7pm owing to heavier than normal traffic volumes in the region.

The lorry left the road at around 12.50pm, and is currently partly off the road – sparking warnings to motorists to avoid the area if they can.

The driver of the green Volvo lorry, a 30-year-old man, was not injured in the crash.

"Due to the complex recovery of the Volvo artic, and the increased traffic volumes due to the Scottish Six Day Trials in the area, the recovery operation has been delayed until 7pm tonight," said a police spokesman.

"The A82 near Torlundy must be closed for a couple of hours. If possible, the road may be opened sporadically to allow queuing traffic to clear.

"Motorists are advised to avoid the area at this time. Thank you for your patience."

In an update at 3.51pm, Traffic Scotland said "both directions of the carriageway are partially restricted due to debris" from the crash but added that traffic was "coping well in the area" ahead of this evening's planned closure.
