A SUPERMARKET worker was caught driving with cocaine in his system by police carrying out a routine check.

Inverness Sheriff Court was told that 38-year-old Neil Buchanan, of Dochfour Drive in Inverness, was in the city’s Johnston Place when stopped on December 30, 2020.

Fiscal depute Sharon Ralph told Sheriff Gary Aitken that officers noticed Buchanan was under the influence of something as his eyes were glazed and his speech was slurred.

A saliva test was carried out which was positive for the class A narcotic. Buchanan admitted driving with 22mcgs of cocaine in his system when the safe amount is 10mcgs.

The court heard that he was in a relationship at the time which centred round taking drugs and drinking.

He was fined £640 and banned from driving for a year.
