PICTURES: Members of Girlguiding Inverness gathered at Inverness Castle last week to mark a very special occasion

Local guides renewed their Promise at the site at precisely 2.22pm on Tuesday, February 22 (22/2/22).

Brownies, Rainbows, Rangers and Leaders all gathered together on the rare occasion of the palindromic date.

Held as a “Thinking Day” for the youngsters the theme was Our World and Our Equal Future - Gender Equality and Climate Change.

Thinking Day was established in 1926 to remember girl guiding across the world and leaders encouraged the girls to think about the founders of the organisation whilst also celebrating the 10 million other Guides and Scouts.

Organiser Penny Sutherland said: “The palindromic date made this year really special.”

The renewal was lead by volunteer Sam Behan and Kirsten Liptrot, who was a Guide and Pathfinder in Canada before re-locating.

The Guides renewed the promise which asks members to be kind and helpful to all, to develop their beliefs, be true to themselves, always do their best, keep Guide law and to serve Queen and country.

A lucky guide from the Lochardil branch, Monica Anderson, has recently received news that she will be joining the Girlguiding Scotland contingent when it travels to South Korea in 2023 for the World Jamboree.

Proud leader Dawn Bain said: “We are all thrilled with Monica’s news! It will be a once in a lifetime opportunity for her and we know she’ll make the most of it.”
