'No fires, no BBQs' – 'High fire risk' warn the signs around Scotland's forests but many campers choose to ignore them and light up anyway.

At one point the number of camp fires burning near the trees beside Loch Morlich beach went into double figures, with one or two even showing themselves on the opposite shore.

Photos taken by observers today show the extent of the problem, with one open fire left smouldering away in the sand. Until tomorrow at least, there is no chance of rain to dampen any lingering embers and even then the storms forecast by the Met Office are going to be sporadic and there's no guarantee of just where they will show themselves.

Social media observers are calling for rangers to arrive with buckets of water to ensure that things do not get out of hand during this hot dry spell.
