Pupils at Dalneigh Primary School were delighted as the school received the silver rights respecting school accolade from Unicef UK award.

The award, based around the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, recognises the school’s commitment to promoting rights to both children and adults and embedding beliefs around respect and protection in its curriculum.

It is now one of more than 1300 schools across the UK to have achieved the silver award.

Head teacher Rhona MacCormick said: “We are a very inclusive school and the Rights Respecting Schools work fits very well with our school ethos.

“We recognise the importance of putting children’s rights at the heart of the school.

“Thank you to the staff and children for all their hard work getting us to this stage.

“We have already started our journey towards achieving the gold award and we are looking forward to seeing the positive impact this has.”
