POLICE were called to a disturbance in a Nairn house and arrested a couple who stayed there.

But 34-year-old John Stewart and his partner, 27-year-old Donna Gray, now of John Street, Nairn, refused to go quietly from their Lochdhu Gate home on the night of August 16, 2021.

Inverness Sheriff Court was told that Stewart assaulted a police sergeant by kicking him on the body and then resisted arrest by struggling violently.

Gray also kicked out and struggled with two officers as they tried to take Stewart away.

Stewart admitted police assault and resisting arrest while Gray pleaded guilty to resisting arrest.

She was fined £470. Defence solicitor advocate Neil Wilson said of his client’s offence: “It was a case of mistaken loyalty.”

Stewart’s lawyer Clare Russell said her client was on a community payback order and a background report would be required.

Sentence was deferred until June 16.
