A CONSTRUCTION worker who stayed over at his girlfriend’s house was still drunk the following morning.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard Stephen Mackenzie (35) of the city’s Thornbush Road, was having problems staying on his feet and was staggering about the property on June 12.

Fiscal depute David Barclay told Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald an argument broke out and he shouted and swore.

“He was banging on a door and making threats of random violence to others, but no-one in particular,” he said “He threw a knife and knife block in the direction of his partner, but it was unlikely it would have struck her.”

Solicitor Patrick O’Dea said both parties wish to reconcile and his client accepts his conduct was unacceptable.

“When he threw the knife and block he did not intend to strike her,” he added.

Deferring sentence until January 5 for good behaviour, Sheriff Macdonald told him: “It was an appalling way to behave towards someone you are supposed to care for.

“But she is prepared to forgive you.”
