A man has avoided punishment despite brandishing a hammer at a mystery attacker.

Darryl Thompson (33) was allowed to walk free from Inverness Sheriff Court on Thursday (May 26).

The court heard the incident happened on December 18, 2020 at Baron Taylor's Street in the city when he was moving into a property around 4pm.

Fiscal depute Karen Poke said the engaged father of one had some tools with him due to the new house move just before Christmas.

He was entering his new property when he was attacked, the court was told.

She added: “As he was doing that someone came up behind him and he was struck.

“He brandished the hammer and the person ran away.”

Thompson, of Baron Taylor's Street, had his sentence had been deferred for good behaviour.

The court heard previously that two men could be seen on CCTV following Mr Thompson into his accommodation.

Sheriff Sutherland admonished him on the charge of threatening and abusive behaviour as police reported no further offences had been reported.
