After a two-year absence due to the Covid pandemic an important agricultural working rally and display returned to the fields this month.

The event organised by Strathnairn Farmers Association at Daviot Estate offered visitors the opportunity to see and learn about farming methods and machinery from a bygone era, with a large and varied selection of vintage and classic tractors and machinery on show.

A heritage marquee also provided a base for numerous stalls, with owners giving informative demonstrations and selling a wide range of products including locally produced ice cream throughout the day.

A photographic display of historic local scenes provided much interest and elsewhere pipers, musicians and Highland dancers entertained an appreciative audience.

After presentations and prize giving, auctioneer Rody Mackenzie successfully sought bids for the many items donated by local firms and individuals for a charity auction in aid of the Elsie Normington Foundation.

Rally chairman Ray Smith said: “The event went very well, with a good crowd turning up, and all seemed to have enjoyed themselves.

“Some are already looking forward to next year’s event.

“On behalf of the committee I would like to thank all who made it possible, including Mr and Mrs Mackenzie for the use of their fields; The Strathnairn Community Benefit Fund; and the Strathdearn Community Charitable Trust for their financial assistance.

“We would also like to thank all the exhibitors and traders; the donations and purchases of items at the auction; the auctioneer and commentator, Pete Small; and Charlie Pirie from Keith for bringing along his magnificent threshing mill.”

Thanks were also given to the entertainers, volunteers and car parking attendants and Mr Smith added: “Thank you to everyone for coming along – your presence helped make the day a success.”
