The summer heatwave won't last forever, but while it is here where can you enjoy some of the best offerings of the hot weather staple?
Miele's Gelateria
Church Street
Inverness
You can't start any list of great places for ice cream in the Highlands without mention of this outlet which, at this time of the year especially, often has queues out the door.
In fact its great range of iced treats is always tempting, no matter the weather – choco banana is the latest summer flavour to be shared on its social media.
If you're heading further afield you should note they also have an outlet in Aviemore – and their "parlour on wheels" mobile truck pops up all over the place too. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for the heads up on its itinerary.
If ice cream isn't your thing you're probably not reading this anyway, but on the off chance you should be aware Miele's has also just reintroduced its iced coffee frappes as well.
The Friary
Beauly
As well as great fish and chips this little gem also does a nice line in Mr Whippy-type cones complete with flavourings in the form of subtle "syrup" added as an integral part of the cone, straight from the machine.
Others may have seen it plenty of other places but it's a new one on me and provides something slightly different to enjoy as you window shop, wander the nearby Priory grounds or just sit in the sun in the square.
Inverness Crazy Golf
The Bught
Inverness
I'm assuming this is one where you're going to want to avail yourself of an ice cream either before or after playing a round rather than during – though that could add nicely to the craziness of it all!
Getting outdoors and moving about anyway is so good for you that you won't even have to feel guilty about your sugary pre or post match treat.
Strathnairn Beach Cafe
Marine Road
Nairn
There's little to beat a cone by the sea and the beachside cafe on Nairn's popular seafront is never short of custom – close to the sand as well as the popular Nairn splashpad.
If the queue there is just too much to stand there's an alternative just slightly further along the front – James's at the putting green – and if you find yourself taking a wander up the High Street keep an eye open for Sprinkles. Nairn may be small compared to Inverness, but on the ice cream front you are spoiled for choice.
Costa
Eastgate Shopping Centre
Inverness
Even in the midst of the city centre's shopping centre you don't have to miss out on your ice cream fix as the coffee shop chain has now started serving it too.
That of course compliments its regular range of cold and iced drinks if you'd prefer – as well as the full range of coffees, teas and more drinks of the piping hot variety for if (when!) the summer heatwave evaporates.
