1 Pooch payback ...

This week's new film Strays (15) tells the sad/ hilarious story of a cute dog who thinks he is man's best friend, but sadly the man – his horrible owner – is a total dirtbag. It might be time for some sweet revenge. The movie lives up to its warnings on strong language, sex references, crude humour and drug misuse – if the trailer is any guide! Strictly for the 15 and overs. But potty-mouthed talking dogs? What's not to love! Find it at Vue Cinema Inverness from Thursday, August 17.

Just time to catch art exhibition Nigg/\Cromarty/\Nigg which is being held in Cromarty at The Stables, from August 19-27. It brings together opposites: industry and nature, new and old, machines and trees, just as the Port of Nigg and the historic town of Cromarty face each other across the entrance to the Cromarty Firth. Sue Jane Tayor is showing work together with her partner Ian Westacott – for the first time. Sue says she hasn't exhibited on the Black Isle since she was at school. And the work she has on show was all created during her arts residency at the Port of Nigg from 2020-2021. It shows the feats of engineering there, while the elm, oak and sweet chestnuts trees that were planted around Cromarty in the 18th and 19th centuries, are captured in Ian Westacott’s intricate etchings. They show trees "ravaged by time and disease". and other ancient trees too, drawn from life. The show is sponsored by Global Energy Group/Port of Nigg and the Cromarty Arts Trust.
