Turtle power, circus meets folk and garden growing fun for all ages.

1. '90s nostalgia for parents – rebooted for a new generation

Cowabunga dudes! Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (PG). After years of being sheltered from the human world, the Turtle brothers set out to win the hearts of New Yorkers and be accepted as normal teenagers through heroic acts. Their new friend April O’Neil helps them take on a mysterious crime syndicate, but they soon get in over their heads when an army of mutants is unleashed upon them.

2. Circus skills and music

Modern circus fun meets inventive folk music in Hold Fast, a celebration of our enduring relationships with the landscape and each other. Made especially for village halls by local artist Ellie Dubois and composer Sarah Hayes, this is a spellbinding family show exploring our community and the water running through it. Performances take place in various locations across Friday and Saturday as well as into next week with full details here. Note that ticket sales will close 24 hours before each performance, however a limited number of tickets will be available on the door at each event. These walk-up tickets are available on a first-come-first-served basis and cash-only.

3. Simpsons Garden Centre plays host to the North of Scotland branch of the National Vegetable Society, back in store on Saturday to host their annual show. As well as a chance to meet the team and learn more about growing veg from seed to table there is a chance to see exhibits and award winners for this year and there will be a children’s mini garden competition. For this please bring along your creations between 10am and 11am with the chance to win a prize. Mini gardens must be no bigger than 8 inches x 8 inches.

Family music fun

4. The Ardersier Folk Festival taking place this weekend includes a family concert at Ardersier War Memorial Hall on Saturday at 2pm. Mostly young musicians performing, with festival partner Wendy's Café open for light snacks. Entry by donation at the door. See here for details
