4 fun family time things to do in Inverness this weekend
The return of a monster hit movie, experimenting with the five senses – and planting bulbs plus the chance to enjoy the Amazing Bubble Man
1 Monster movie returns
The ultimate dinosaur movie? Jurassic Park (12A) Now it's in 4K for the first time and featuring Academy Award®-winning visual effects that have been hailed as “a triumph of special effects artistry”). Thrills, shivers, this epic film was "65 million years in the making" and it says its in English and its other language? "Dinosaur roar". Spectacular – but maybe not for the littlest ones in the family! It's on at Eden Court on Saturday, September 1 and Sunday, September 2, at 1pm both days. Also at Vue Cinema, various times.
2 Light bulb moments to get you growing
At Howdens Garden Centre, Grow Minis on Saturday, September 2 at 11am will be learning about bulbs. Youngsters will find out all about spring flower bulbs and why we plant them in autumn. And the session will also look at how to plant bulb 'lasagne' in the garden! These sessions run monthly and last 30 minutes and are designed for four to 10-year-olds. Sessions are only free for children accompanied by an adult holding a valid Grow Rewards membership. There is a £2 charge to non members.
3 Bubble magic
Join Louis Pearl The Amazing Balloon Man on Saturday, September 2 at 2pm who comes from 12 successful sellout years at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival letting bubbles float into people's lives in a surprising way. In the one-hour show for all ages coming to Eden Court, he will explore the dynamics of bubbles, combining comedy, audience participation, spellbinding bubble tricks – all designed to keep everyone mesmerised. From square bubbles, bubbles inside bubbles, fog-filled bubbles, giant bubbles, bubble volcanoes, tornados and trampolines to people inside bubbles, the Amazing Bubble Man conjures laughter and gasps of amazement.
Most shows will also feature multi instrumentalist Jet Black Pearl accompanying Louis with music to add to the your pleasure.
4 Please the five senses
On Sunday, September 3 at both 10.15am and 11.30am, this month’s Little Seedlings free event at Dobbies Garden Centre will be a garden senses workshop. It includes a look at our five senses and how they relate to exploring gardens and green spaces; how we see the colours and patterns of the garden; how hearing works and the sounds of the garden; our sense of taste, different kinds of flavours and what we can take taste in the garden; our sense of touch and the different textures of the garden; our sense of smell and the scents of the garden. There's also a look at chrysanthemums and how they can enhance a sensory garden. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Advance booking is required with spaces booked quickly – please book early to avoid disappointment.
