As the school holidays end, here are some options to lose yourself in screen adventure – from family classics to a Disney legend – and an outdoor ceilidh

1 Summer Of Cinema

Film blockbusters including The Mask make up a season of entertaining summer classics planned as a retro delight for all ages at Eden Court Cinema! And if you see any three films from the Summer Of Cinema season, tickets are £15. On Friday, August 18 at 7pm, there is Jim Carrey starring in The Mask (PG), on Saturday, August 19 at 1pm Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone (PG) and on Sunday, August 20 at noon Lord Of The Rings: Fellowship Of The Ring: Extended Version (12A).

2 Ceilidh Nis music outdoors

Cultarlann Inbhir Nis – a local charity aiming to set up a Gaelic Cultural Centre in Inverness – will be holding Ceilidh Nis in the Ness Islands on Saturday, August 19 from 2-4pm. The charity says all are welcome to come along and enjoy music, storytelling, dance and poetry in the performance area of the islands. People are being asked to bring their own picnic, blanket and refreshments. The music will come from Astar (Rachel Campbell and fiddlers), former Mod gold medallist Ceitidh Campbell as well as young musicians from Bun-Sgoil Ghaidhlig Inbhir Nis. Cultarlann is raising funds for the Gaelic Centre and although this event is free, donations are welcome.

3 Awww, classic cutie

The 1942 Disney classic animation Bambi (U) the story of a young deer growing up in the forest and it's on at Vue Cinema on Saturday, August 19, Sunday, August 20 and Wednesday, August 23 at 1pm.

And also more screen magic with Paddington (PG) from 2014, on Saturday, August 19 at 3.10pm and Sunday, August 20 at 3pm, at Vue Cinema Inverness.

Julia Donaldson & Axel Scheffler's Tales From Acorn Wood Live! is coming to Eden Court at the end of the month with just two shows – Friday, August 25 at 1.30pm and Saturday, August 26 at 10.30pm, with a selection of stories from the popular books turned into a show suitable for youngsters 1+.
