A programme of over 30 free open days, walks and talks grant access to the region’s hidden gems.

As part of the annual Doors Open Days festival in Scotland, the Highlands region is opening the doors

of some of its most interesting and unusual buildings from Saturday September 3 until Sunday 25

September.

Co-ordinated in the Highlands by Inverness City Heritage Trust and Baseline Research, a programme

of open days will take place over four weekends in September, free of charge.

The open days will allow visitors to explore over 30 buildings and site throughout the region, some of which are not normally open to the public.

Among the more unusual and exciting opportunities over the month’s events are tours of the new

Inverness Justice Centre which opened just as the country was entering into a national lockdown.

Tours of the building will allow people to see the courtroom, cells, and vulnerable witness facilities.

In addition to open days, several interactive activities have also been organised. These include

guided meditations at the Highland Buddhist Centre, 21st century interactive technology at the

Highland Archive Centre, singing workshops at The Field, whisky sampling in Caithness and a guided

walk around Glencoe to name a few.

Alison Tanner, area co-ordinator at Inverness City Heritage Trust, said: “As well as several walks and talks, we have a diverse selection of buildings allowing access and tours.

"These include the Emergency Operations Centre/World War Two Radar Bunker in Inverness,The Field in Alness, Castle Roy at Nethy Bridge and distilleries and mills in Caithness.

“Whether you visit a castle, museum, historic building, or church, each will provide a fascinating

insight to the work, history and heritage of the Highlands - all told by passionate employees,

custodians and experts. We look forward to opening our doors to you!”

Further details can be found at www.doorsopendays.org.uk.

Although all events are free some must be booked in advance and are subject to availability.
