Fifteen play parks are to be improved after councillors agreed to additional funding.

Play parks in the likes of Inverness, Beauly, Drumnadrochit, Ardersier, Kirkhill, Croy and Fort Augustus are to receive more than £15,000 worth of improvements between them after councillors on the city of Inverness area committee agreed to the move last week.

A total £15,295 will be repurposed from Covid-19 funds to pay for repairs and improvements in the following four Inverness area wards:

  • Ward 12 – Aird and Loch Ness (£1,145) across five play parks at Braeview (Beauly), Balmacaan Road (Drumnadrochit), Abertaff (Fort Augustus) and Jenkins park play area and skatepark also in Fort Augustus and Kirkhill play area.
  • Ward 14 – Inverness Central (£2,000) across three play parks at Anderson Street, Bellfield Park and Benula Road.
  • Ward 16 – Inverness Millburn (£1,800) across two play parks Eight Acres playing field and Grebe Avenue play area.

More council news.

It was agreed at a council meeting in early 2021 that wards with unspent Covid-19 funds could use that money on projects that would assist children and adults in the wake of the pandemic, especially within deprived areas.

Leader of Inverness and area, Councillor Ian Brown, said: “We are delighted to have been able to approve the repurposing of funds from the COVID-19 fund and to allocate this towards play parks.

Supporting young people and families in these cash-strapped recovery times is very important for those that need play facilities close to home. We hope that these repairs and improvements to play areas will make a difference in local communities.”
