NAIRN firefighters raised a whopping sum following a popular Christmas appeal.

The Nairn fire station crew, whose members were out in force over Christmas on their Santa’s Sleigh tour, announced that their fundraising effort raised £13,536 which will help contribute to Nairn’s local charities needs.

This comes after the team donated £3000 to MFR Cash For Kids when they appealed to support Children before Christmas Day.

Crew commander James Kellis said: “We are absolutely delighted with the response. Everyone dug into their pockets despite the cost of living crisis,

“All the money will be given out to charities within the Nairn district – as and when charities require funding we will supply them with some of the money raised.

“We can’t thank the community enough – this is truly a team effort, and a community effort that allowed us to come to that amount.

“It’s quite close to what we raised last year so we just hope the momentum keeps up.

“Hats off to everyone who contributed!”

The initiative is a tradition that the crew picked up from the local Rotary Club.

On the announcement on Facebook, the team posted: “We want to say a huge thank-you to each and every business who donated sweets for the sleigh to give out and hot drinks and snacks for the Grinch, Santa and his elves to enjoy as they made their way around the area.

“ Also, a huge thank you to each and every person who donated, waved or just gave us a huge smile as we made our rounds. It’s hard to put into words how proud we are of our Community, but yet again you’ve all excelled yourselves.

“Finally, we as a team, want to say a big thank-you to all of the firefighters and their families, for giving up their free time, not just to be out with the sleigh, but in the background too! Only with such fantastic teamwork, can we continue the Santa’s Sleigh tradition in our local communities. “
