A GENEROUS donation of more than £1000 was made to Highland Hospice by a local family in honour of their beloved mother and wife who died of cancer.

Mum-of-four Louise MacKay passed away last month, the day before her 40th birthday.

She was diagnosed with stage four cervical cancer in December 2016 and husband Donnie said she bravely fought for almost three years to spend as much time as possible with her family.

The donation was raised at Louise’s funeral, at which around 250 people turn up to pay their respects.

The youngest member of the family Zoe (5) also helped with the fundraising effort, with her own contribution coming courtesy of a collection at her nursery, the Andy Pandy Playgroup.

Highland Hospice communications officer Wendy Morgan said: “Thank you so much to the family and friends who contributed to this donation at the funeral of Louise MacKay, an inspirational lady who many of our staff got to know while she was cared for here.

“Special thanks to the Andy Pandy Playgroup teachers Mrs Ogilvie, Jackie and Diane, for fundraising in memory of Zoe’s mum and to Zoe’s nursery friends and their families for their support.

“This generous donation shows that Louise’s story has touched many people’s hearts, and we are extremely grateful to receive it.”

Thie donation is not the only way the MacKay family plan to honour Louise’s memory.

Oldest daughter Mya (15) will run in the Cancer Research Race For Life this year with nearly 30 of her schoolmates.

Donations can be made to Mya’s Race For Life fund at fundraise.cancerresearch.org/team/love-for-louise.

And oldest son Will (20) also plans to get his running on shoes for the Edinburgh Marathon which takes place on May 26.
