With skyscrapping platforms, floral jumpsuits, flared trousers and maxi dresses, the ’70s are back with a bang this summer.

Since top designers like Marc Jacobs sent their models down the catwalks decked out in clothes inspired by the trend setting decade, the shop rails have been brimming with clothes from this colourful era. Rosemary Lowne decided to scout the Eastgate Centre for chic shoppers, to ask them about their style and what they think of the latest fashions

What he’s wearing: Hat and shirt from USC, tracksuit bottoms from Sports Direct and trainers from Rockport.

"I don’t usually wear sport clothes like these, I’m wearing this because I’ve got my exams at the moment," he said. "I usually like to wear formal shoes and formal trousers.

"I don’t follow the latest trends. I like Peter Andre’s style."

"I dress by my mood so if I’m happy and feel comfortable in my skin I’ll dress up, which is most of the time. But on rare occasions I’ll wear more sporty clothes.

"I read Elle, In Style and look at fashion website Net-A-Porter.

"I think it’s important to be individual.

"I love the seventies style."

What she’s wearing: Shoes from New Look, trousers from French Connection, belt from Next, shirt from Mango, purse from Louis Vuitton and necklace from Tiffany & Co.

"I’m most comfortable in a T-shirt and jeans," she said. "I just wear what I fancy really, I don’t follow trends. I really like the jumpsuits that are in the shops at the moment.

"For a night out I would wear a dress and heels but I always wear flats during the day.

"I do like to look at magazines to see what people are wearing.

"I quite like Cheryl Cole’s style as she always looks amazing."

What she’s wearing: Denim jacket and sandals from Next, dress from Monsoon, bag from French Connection.

"I got this dress for my friend’s 40th birthday last year and I love it because it’s smart and comfortable," she said. "I describe my style as thrown together as I like to be comfortable but also like clothes that will be suitable for work.

"I love the ’70s style that is in at the moment like the wide-flared trousers. I’m not so keen on wedges though, because I’m tall, I like to wear flats.

"I don’t follow trends, if I see something I like I’ll buy it."

Eighteen-year-old Beth Brain, of Fairways, who works as a sales assistant for French Connection.

What she’s wearing: Sunglasses from French Connection, jacket from Warehouse, top from Topshop, leggings from Zara, boots and belt from H&M and bag from Zara.

"I mostly wear clothes from French Connection because I work there. I think my style is quite glam. I’m not a slave to fashion trends but I have to know what’s on trend for my job.

"I have a lot of subscriptions to fashion magazines to keep up to date.

"For the evening, I’ll definitely dress up by wearing a dress or skirt and heels.

"I always wear heels, I don’t feel nice if I’m not wearing heels. I admire Alexa Chung and people like her who don’t really follow trends and don’t look really put together."
