With Brexit fast approaching, take a look outside of Europe for drinks inspiration.

"Come January 31, whether you're drowning your sorrows or celebrating, if you can't find your favourite wine from France, Spain or Italy in the shops or local bar, no need to panic," says Lydia Harrison, certified educator, WSET School London.

"There are plenty of great alternatives from other parts of the world."

Here's what to look for, depending on your preference...

1. If you love prosecco

"There are lots of fresh, fruity and affordable sparkling wines from further afield. Head to Australia for great value, quaffable wines with a crisp fizz."

2. If you love Champagne

"Stay closer to home and try some of the fantastic English sparkling wines that are now available. Made from the same grape varieties – chardonnay, pinot noir and pinot meunier, and in the same traditional method – they'll taste very similar and work perfectly as an aperitif with some nibbles or canapés."

3. If you love pinot grigio

"Make your way to California where they use the same grape to make great value wines in a similar style. If you want to treat yourself, try New Zealand pinot gris."

4. If you love Sancerre

"Head to Chile for an alternative, where they excel at crisp, dry, super-refreshing sauvignon blanc with lovely grass and green apple notes. Look out for Casablanca on the label, as this coastal region provides perfect cooling conditions for especially good whites."

5. If you love Chablis

"You could try a wine made from the same grape – chardonnay – from the cooler climate regions of Australia, like Yarra Valley. Or, if you're feeling adventurous and have a little more to spend, then Tasmanian chardonnay is well worth a try."

6. If you love Provencal rosé

"Try a New Zealand Pinot Noir rosé. It will have the same pale pink hue, delicate red fruits with fresh acidity to liven the palate."
