Laughter merchants the Teuchters’ Comedy Club have just celebrated a special milestone.

The Inverness-based comedy group marked their first anniversary at the end of June – a year that has seen new blood injected into the region’s burgeoning comedy scene.

Teuchters’ Comedy Club currently host the monthly Comedy Bothy events at Mad Hatters, Inverness – returning this Friday with guest headliner Vladimir McTavish – along with fortnightly open mic shows in the city’s La Tortilla Asesuna.

The club have also ventured around the north of Scotland, with a tour around the North Coast 500 last year along with dates in Morayshire.

Teuchters’ founder Halde Pottinger can hardly believe how quickly things have blown up for the group.

“It feels like it’s only been two minutes!” the Thurso-born stand-up said. “This past year for the Teuchters’ Comedy Club has just been unreal – an incredible adventure.

“I suppose the best way to look at it would compare what we were doing a year ago to what we are doing now. Last year we were brand new, still growing hosting one gig a month, and still sadly relying on Central Belt comedians as our local pool was only about five committed guys.

“Now though, we have at least three free gigs a month, a main event gig a month, we are getting out all over the Highlands, and that merry group of five has grown to 21…including five female comics!

“I suppose that is just one way to take stock on how the journey is going – but it is not a bad wee indicator to bring it on to the next 12 months!”

The Teuchters’ Comedy Club have the following dates lined up:

Friday, July 6: The Comedy Bothy with Vladimir McTavish, Mad Hatters, Inverness

Saturday, July 7: Women in Comedy special with Susan Riddell, Lyth Arts Centre, near Wick

Wednesday, July 11: Open mic, La Tortilla Asesina, Inverness

Saturday, July 14: Seaforth Hotel, Ullapool

Wednesday, July 25: Open mic, La Tortilla Asesina, Inverness
