HIGHLAND ramblers are being invited to take a hike and a photo - and snap up a prize into the bargain.
Ramblers Scotland is offering 100 prizes as part of a competition to encourage more people to Get Outdoors this August.
In its 50 year, the charity is encouraging more people to discover the many benefits of walking by getting into the countryside over this weekend.
People of all ages and abilities are being urged to try something new, meet new people, explore new places and enjoy Scotland outdoors.
If they post a photo on the organisation’s website this weekend or during the month of August, there is an opportunity to win a prize too.
Ramblers Scotland Director Jess Dolan said: “Get Outdoors Weekend is a great way of celebrating Ramblers Scotland’s 50 birthday by showcasing all that Scotland’s fabulous countryside can offer for walkers.
"In addition, our Get Outdoors Competition, launching this weekend, provides just the incentive to put on your walking shoes and head out for a walk. All you have to do is send us a photo!”
Over 100 prizes are on offer for those who go for a walk and post a photo of a Scottish walking scene to the Ramblers website.
The main prize is a two-night stay for two at Gleneagles Hotel in a luxurious Sovereign room. Included in the stay is a table d’hôte dinner in The Strathearn for two. The lucky winners will also have unlimited use of the club, two swimming pools, sauna, heat and thermal suite, outdoor hot pool, tennis, croquet and putting greens.
Other prizes include a man's or lady's Paramo fleece and windproof jacket worth up to £185, a Highlander Blackthorn 2 tent ideal for wild camping and a complete set of Pocket Mountain Walks from Source to Sea guide books.
The first 100 people to share their photos of their walks this August on the website will win a prize.
Despite the wet summer, the group insists Scotland’s outdoors can still be enjoyed, whether individually, with family and friends, or on a group-led walk.
Close to home, there’s over 450 short walks already mapped, easily downloadable for free on the Ramblers Medal Routes App.
For more experienced walkers, there are Munros, Corbetts, Donalds and Grahams to climb and intriguing new walking routes can also be found on Ramblers Routes, the Ramblers own routes database.
Scotland also offers 26 long-distance routes of 23 miles or more. Scotland’s Great Trails showcase some of the country’s best scenery and can make a great foundation for a day trip.
Many of these trails are close to local towns and villages, such as the John Muir Way, which runs through the Central Belt from Dunbar to Helensburgh, or the Fife and Ayrshire Coastal Paths.
