Future Islands waiting on Highland debut

Inverness music lovers won’t be able to wait for those seasons to change – with indie darlings Future Islands lined up for a summer Ironworks gig.
The Baltimore band bring their 80s-tinged pop to the Ironworks on Tuesday, June 12 – their first time in the Highlands.
Forming in 2006, their live performances quickly became the stuff of legend – with frontman Samuel T Herring’s unpredictability on stage gaining them fans on the underground circuit.
After their first three albums – Wave Like Home, In Evening Air, and On the Water – Future Islands shot into the public eye after the release of fourth album Singles. The band’s live performance of single Seasons (Waiting on You) – and Samuel’s dancing and vocals – on the Late Show with David Letterman in early 2014 went viral on YouTube.
The current video up from that performance has currently racked up more than two million hits on Youtube, with a performance of the same song on Later with Jools Holland also racking up close to that number.
Singles went on to be critically acclaimed, while Seasons went on to be named song of the year by NME and Pitchfork.
While touring Singles, the band celebrated playing their 1000th gig together – in July 2015.
Their most recent album, The Far Field, was released earlier this year to similar acclaim. With a darker sound than Singles, the album also notably featured a duet with Blondie icon Debbie Harry on the track Shadows.
To promote the album, Future Islands have already been touring extensively – this year has seen them play Coachella, 6 Music Festival, and the Barrowlands in Glasgow.
