We’ve had a busy year travelling around the north of Scotland seeking out adventures in what we think is one of the most beautiful parts of the world.

From family walks to mountain-top traverses and from cycle trips to kayaking on flat calm seas, it’s been a memorable time for the Active Outdoors team.

It’s also been our first full year where our features have been published in all six of our local newspapers.

We hope readers of the Strathspey and Badenoch Herald, Northern Times, Ross-shire Journal, Northern Scot, Inverness Courier and John O’Groat Journal have enjoyed reading about our trips and even trying them out for themselves.

Inverness Courier readers have been enjoying our adventures for more than four-and-a-half years now, and there are still plenty of places we’ve yet to discover and share.

If you have any suggestions of favourite outings you think we could cover, let us know.

In spring 2012 we launched our first Active Outdoors magazine, featuring even more routes as well as focusing on the magnificent Great Glen.

Our autumn/winter magazine came out in September and included winter hill skills from an expert at the Mountaineering Council of Scotland, and a fantastic weekend of climbing, scrambling and walking in Torridon’s majestic landscape.

In this Christmas week, we bring you a selection of our favourite photographs from our trips this year. You can see even more on our websites.

We wish you an active and happy New Year, and can’t wait to bring you more routes and adventures throughout 2013 – starting next week with a hill walk above Loch Ness.
