TEENAGER Doug Brockie says it was a proud moment in his young career to score the equaliser which earned Glenurquhart their first Premiership point of the season in a 2-2 draw against Kyles Athletic at Drumnadrochit yesterday.

The 16-year-old wing forward scored the leveller as Glenurquhart came from 2-0 down to earn a point at Blairbeg Park.

Kyles Athletic found themselves two goals up after 31 minutes through James Pringle and Connor Kennedy. But Ryan Porter pulled one back for Glenurquhart before half time and Brockie found the equaliser in the 54th minute.

It was the first point of the season for Glenurquhart in their 10th game of the campaign, who this season are back in the top flight of shinty for the first time since 2018.

Kiltarlity youngster Brockie (16) a pupil at Glenurquhart High School in Drumnadrochit, says he was delighted to bring his team back into the match saying that they were well worth their point.

He says it was a special moment for him to score for Glenurquhart in a Premiership match.

“It was a big moment for me,” he said.

“I have started playing for the first team, so being able to get a game and scoring a goal was a big moment for me.

“It was a close game, Kyles Athletic were dominant in the first half and they had plenty of chances. But we started working harder in the second half and we managed to get a draw at the end of the game.

“We have all worked hard in training since the start of the season and eventually we have deserved to get that point.

“We are all going to keep working hard and look to get more points.”

Brockie started playing shinty with Lovat when he was four before going on to play for Glenurquhart .

He hopes he can continue getting more first team starts and finding the net more often as the club enter the second half of the season.

Speaking about playing first team shinty in the Premiership, Brockie said: “It is different, playing with the more experienced and talented players, but playing with the more older players helps. I am learning more from them as I am going along.”

“We have a lot of young players coming into the first team which I think will help us in the future.

“At the moment, we just need to keep on training and work harder and by taking small steps at a time we can become better.

“If I can get a couple more goals before the end of the season, that would be good too.”
