Record entry is set to run at Loch Ness Marathon Festival of Running

ORGANISERS have announced a record-breaking number of entries are set to take part in the Loch Ness Marathon Festival of Running which takes place this month.

It have been confirmed the total number of participants across all races at the festival is expected to exceed 9000 when it takes place on Sunday, September 29.

The Loch Ness Marathon has received 2300 entries for the 26.2 mile race which will start at high ground at Fort Augustus and finish at the banks of River Ness opposite Bught Park.

Thousands of entries have also been received for the River Ness 10K and the River Ness 5k. Additionally, the Wee Nessie race, designed for children aged five and under, features a short circular route within the safety of Bught Park.

Last year, Broxburn athlete Moray Pryde won the men’s marathon in a time of two hours, 22 minutes and eight seconds.

Melissah Gibson of Ealing won the women's race when she claimed victory in 2:43.46.

Max Abernethy from Fraserburgh won the River Ness 10k in a time of 30.10.

Claire Bruce from Metro Aberdeen club won the women’s title in a time of 34:46.

In the River Ness 5k, Roy Taylor from Buckie won the men’s title in a time of 16:52 with Inverness teenager Lois Macrae winning the women’s title in 17:20.

Registration for the 2024 Loch Ness Marathon Festival of Running closes at midnight on Sunday, September 22.
