Inverness teenage golfer is top amateur at AIG Women’s Open qualifiers

INVERNESS golfer Summer Elliott put in an impressive performance at AIG Women’s Open qualifiers at Delamere Forest Golf Club in England.

The teenager finished in seventh place out of 109 players during the pre-qualifying stage and was the only amateur player to get through to the final qualifying stage.

During the final qualifying stage, Elliott finished in 58th place out of 92 golfers which featured some players who competed at the Olympic Games, and fell just short of making the main tournament.

Elliott is seen as one of the rising stars of Scottish golf and has recorded a number of major tournament wins during her career.

Last year, her major wins included the Stephen Gallacher Vase, Paul Lawrie Junior Quaich and Barrie Douglas Scottish Junior Masters.In addition, she made history when she became the first girl to win the Inverness Golf Club Junior Championship last weekend.

Her success led to her winning the 2023 Scottish Golf Girls' Order of Merit.

She recently competed for Scotland at the Boys and Girls Home International in Wales.
