A driving instructor has posted 'one of the worst bits of driving I have seen' in his long career, showing a delivery van shooting out from the exit lane at the Lynwilg junction by Aviemore.

Stewart Hills, of Aviemore-based Castle Hills Driving Tuition, was staggered as the van appeared from nowhere and cut him up on its way to then shooting on to the A9.

The dashcam footage has been released on Facebook.

"Every day, driving instructors have to deal with a lot of impatient drivers," said Mr Hills.

"However, today is one of the worst bits of driving I have ever seen in my 18 years of being a driving instructor.

"We often cuss foreigners for their lack of understanding or tourists driving slow and being indecisive but this takes on a whole new level of stupidity and carelessness.

"I wish I had a side camera to see the whole thing unfold...."

The incident had definitely caught him and his student by surprise, he added.

Mr Hills told the Strathy on Monday: "The level of driving was awful and that kind of driving puts lives at risk."

Asked how many frights he had had in his career he said: "Loads. Too many to comment on or recollect."

He explained: "The biggest issue is people's attitude when it comes to driving.

"I do try to teach a good attitude in my lessons. But some people, you just know they don't listen and will do what they want when they pass."
