Three people were taken to hospital this evening after a three-car collision blocked the A96 near Auldearn.

The Inverness-Aberdeen route remains closed in both directions – with diversions through Auldearn – while police carry out a major accident investigation.

BREAKING: A96 Inverness to Aberdeen road closed in both directions after three-vehicle crash near Auldearn

The accident happened at the B9101 junction east of Auldearn, with the alarm raised at 4.46 pm.

The condition of the injured is not known.

Police, ambulance and fire crews attended the scene, with firefighters using specialist cutting equipment to help remove casualties.

The road closure has caused huge tailbacks in both directions on the A96, with slow passage along the B road through the village.

Police Scotland are yet to give any update on when they expect the road to reopen.
