Concerted efforts to save a competitor at Carrbridge Golf Club yesterday were tragically unsuccessful.

Stevie McIntosh, course manager at Inverness' Kings Golf Club, fell ill during the event.

A spokesperson for the Carrbridge club told the Strathy: "It happened during the Stewart Taylor Gents Open at around 12.30. He took to feeling unwell.

"As his condition did not improve he was attended by First Aiders and then by ambulance crews and the air ambulance, who battled to save him but sadly he died at the scene."

The competition was abandoned.

"Our thoughts are with his family and friends."

Mr McIntosh is understood to have been in his early 50s.

He was instrumental in the highly successful redesign of the popular Inverness course between 2017 and 2019.

The Inverness club released this statement this afternoon:

“It’s with great sadness that the Kings Golf Club have to announce devastating news of the sudden passing of our Course Manager Stevie McIntosh.

"Our condolences are with Linda & the McIntosh family.”
