An Inverness man who “groped” a woman in an Inverness bar was sentenced to a 100-hour community payback order and placed under supervision for a year at the city’s sheriff court.

Raymond Marshall (38), of Kenneth Street, had denied the assault which occurred in Lauders Bar, in Church Street, Inverness on August 4 last year.

In July, Inverness Sheriff Court heard that Marshall seized his victim by the throat and repeatedly touched her chest and groped her breasts.

Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood discounted Marshall's denial and told him he had no doubt he committed the offence he was accused of.

Defence solicitor Clare Russell said on Marshall’s behalf that he maintained that he had “accidentally brushed” the woman with his hand.
