PICTURES: £80k for Highland Hospice from Loch Ness bungee event
Highland Hospice has promised a new date for bungee jumps and catapult launches after having to postpone the second day of the event due to high winds in the Great Glen.
The event was taking place at Dores on the banks of Loch Ness and some 120 people made successful jumps on Saturday but organisers felt there was too great a risk due to blustering conditions to go ahead on Sunday.
A charity spokesperson said: “We know those of you booked on will be disappointed but your safety is our priority.
“We will issue an alternative date asap and get you all jumping soon.”
So far more than £80,000 has been generated for the hospice, based in Inverness.
One of the touching highs of the event according to organisers was when a those who had been touched by the hospice’s work did a bungee jump together, which moved some to tears.
The organisers said: “What an emotional moment – Leanne and Garry’s tandem bungee jump in memory of Leanne’s mum who was cared for by the hospice, and their precious daughter Emily, both sorely missed. Huge well done guys, you had us in tears.”
Volunteers at the hospice also got in on the act – like Morag who seemed entirely comfortable and fully embraced jumping from a height of 160ft secured by the bungee.
The catapult – described by organisers as a reverse bungee – launched participants 160ft into the air.
