A FIRE in a large lorry caused the closure of one lane near the A9 Raigmore interchange this morning.

The male driver tried to extinguish the flames himself after his wheels caught fire, with emergency services alerted at around 9.30 am.

Police closed the lane because of debris on the road.

Two fire engines attended the scene and brought the fire under control, with nobody injured in the incident.

A police spokesman said: “Around 9.30 am, we received a report of a mechanical fire in a lorry at the A9 Raigmore Interchange.

“One lane was closed at around 9.50 am due to debris on the road. One lane remains closed but traffic is moving freely.

“There were no injuries. The male occupant tried to put the fire out himself, but was concerned it might not necessarily be under control.

A fire brigade spokeswoman said: “We have two appliances in attendance at the moment.

“A large lorry with its wheels on fire had stopped in a lay-by, but there are no reports of anyone injured.”
