Inverness man who terrified his partner avoids custody sentence for his course of abuse
An Inverness man who was abusive to his then partner including pursuing her into the street when she tried to get away from him, avoided a custody sentence at the city’s sheriff court.
James Lane, (33) appeared from remand at Inverness Sheriff Court and admitted a course of domestic abuse towards the woman between March and September last year at residences in MacEwan Drive, Baillie Place and elsewhere in Inverness.

This behaviour included causing her to be struck on the head by a glass to her injury, shouting, swearing and uttering offensive remarks at her, throwing her mobile against a wall breaking it, then pursuing her out of a house.
He then dragged her out of a car and repeatedly threatened to harm himself and then did so in her presence. All this was committed while he was on bail for previous offending.
An earlier court hearing was told the glass incident, which was the first of many, happened after he and his partner argued as they were socialising at a friend's house.
Fiscal depute Pauline Gair told Sheriff Gary Aitken that Lane lashed out at a table in front of him which sent a glass flying, hitting the woman on the head and causing a cut.
Sentence had been deferred for a background report and an assessment for a male domestic abuser's rehablitation programme.
Lane was placed under a two-year supervision order which includes 140 hours of community work and engaging with the Caledonian men’s programme.
