14 pictures of our readers canine companions in aid of National Dog Rescue Day

Over a dozen people sent in stories of their canine companions, to which they rescued and started a home in Inverness.

National Rescue Dog Day takes place on May 20 every year and allows us to bring focus to dogs in need of a second chance and a forever home.

In aid of this, here are just a few of our readers' dogs that have found safety and a loving home here in the Highlands.

1. Patch

Lyndsay Morrison sent in an image of her dog Patch who was recued 10 years ago. Sadly Patch was abandoned in Wick area, but found his ‘forever home’ with Lyndsay and family.

She said: “He is 18-years-old now, but doesn’t act his age at all. He charms everyone with his unique character and Grampa Broon antics.”

2. Midnight

Rachel Waites sent in an image of her rescue dog Midnight who is a Bosnian rescue. Midnight is now living her best life in the Highlands.

3. Loki

Tahnee Fell sent in a picture of her delightful spaniel, Loki. Tahnee rescued Loki when he was just 10 weeks old and was going to be drowned. He is now 16 months and ‘the most affectionate boy’.

She said: “He just loves playing with other dogs, which is just as well because he came into a family if 14 dogs and they are all best pals.”

4. Mika

Isobel Geegan adopted her ‘gorgeous boy’ Mika from Many Kisses Dog Rescue two and a half years ago. Unfortunately, Mika was passed from one person to another and was really distressed in kennels.

Isobel said: “He’s a big gentle boy with a big voice and typical husky craziness. He loves his pack of playdates at Paws N Play Adventure Park and WaggTail Woods where he’s safe to be off the lead and play.

“He is very much loved and happy.”

Heather MacDonald sent in a picture of 3-year-old Willow who was rescued from the Spanish Rescue Centre and has been rehomed with Heather for over a year.

Ruby Mackenzie sent in an image of her 11-year-old rescue dog Nessie from the Scottish SPCA.

7. Butter’s

Daleann Guhl rescued 10-year-old Butter’s. He originally came from South Korea and has been at a loving home for over a month now.

Daleann said: “He has no teeth and has a tough life, but he is doing amazingly and settling in perfectly.”

Anita Allen adopted 11-year-old Holly in 2014, and despite not knowing her backstory, she found a forever home.

9. Milla

Erynn Nicol adopted Milla when she was 8 or 9-years-old from Romania in 2020 and is the ‘best girl ever’.

Kirstin Rattray rescued ‘mountain lover’ Canna around seven years ago.

11. Max

Emily Joy adopted Max 14 years ago from Munlochy Animal Aid.

Katarzyna Krawczyk sent in a picture of Bia who was adopted over 2 years ago from Pawprints To Freedom.

13. Sandy

Jayne Moore rescued 8-year-old Sandy from Spain when he was just four month’s old and is her ‘baby’.

Ggl Ph sent in a picture of 2-year-old Trig who was rescued from Munlochy Animal Aid when he was just 8 weeks old.
