Golf became hugely popular in Scotland in the 15th century, however it was seen as a hindrance by the crown. The aim was to get Scots to focus on their military training instead, but the draw of the sport was too much and players ignored the ban.

1. Kings Golf Club
At just £40 per person for a round of golf on this beautiful, fully equipped 18 hope championship course. Additional access to the club’s practice range and chipping area, pro shop that offers professional advice, as well as a bar and restaurant. Kings Golf Club has already been rated in the top 100 golf courses in Scotland and top 100 under £65 in Great Britain.
2. Nairn Dunbar Golf Club
Costing just £30 per round, this championship Links golf course is ranked 9th in the North of Scotland’s top 100 golf courses. Nairn Dunbar stretches out 6765 yards over 18 holes and has its very own driving range shelter which is open 24/7.
3. Tain Golf Club
The full Championship length course is set in a mix of links and heathland with some forced carries across tangled heather to rumpled fairways, edged by gorse, giving enticing views of the Easter Ross mountain backdrop and panoramic views of the Dornoch Firth on the other side. A day at this luxury golf course costs £90 per person.
4. Muir of Ord Golf Club

6. Lybster Golf Club
Lybster Golf Club is thought to be one of the best short courses in the Highlands, with just 9 holes over 15 acres of land, and stunning views, it presents a good challenge suitable for a range of abilities. It costs just £20 per person for a round of golf on this course.
7. Inverness Golf Club
Inverness Golf Club is situated less than one mile from the city centre and offers a wide range of facilities, from a bar and restaurant, to a pro golf shop on site. It costs an average of £55 to play a round on this course.
8. Invergordon Golf Club
Invergordon Golf Club have facilities to provide all types of functions in a beautiful setting that overlooks the golf course and the Cromarty Firth. The club also offer golf outings for Cruise line passenger’s visiting the Port of Invergordon. It costs an average of £45 throughout summer season.
9. Aigas Golf Course
Aigas is situated at the foot of Strathglass, an area renowned for its outstanding natural beauty and great wealth of wildlife. It costs an average of £18 per round at this golf course and offers a wide range of facilities on site.
10. Strathpeffer Spa Golf Club
Lying resplendent on a hilltop in the heart of the Scottish Highlands north of Inverness, accessed via the A834 – is the 18-hole golf course that has a stunning vista of the Cromarty Firth and beyond. It costs £55 per person to complete this golf course.
