Caley Thistle ground could be ‘hotbed for events’

The new owner of Caley Thistle, Ketan Makwana, has said bringing the land around the stadium under club control could open the way for further “activities, entertainment and leisure”.

“Perfect for events - and if you're doing that all the time, and invest in all the equipment you need instead of having to hire it in every time, there are major savings to be made. All this can co-exist with the football end of things, which let's be honest isn't hugely profitable.” - Mark Lawless

“Hope it's better organised than the last concert we attended there.” - John Bruce

“Elton John and Rod Stewart were huge hits. Westlife and Tom Jones no effort was made for them to return. Duran Duran and Bocelli, well, we all know that turned into a shambles and people lost a lot of money through it. Currently a lot of people and not just the fan base have major concerns what's happening behind the scenes at the stadium.” - Steven Garden

Highlands set to hit by eight-day bins strike

Refuse workers across Scotland, including in the Highlands, have voted to go on strike for eight days later this month in a row over pay.

“It all stems from the issue of greed. For many years the government has been pushing up the minimum wage while there has been no such system for those on incomes above minimum wage up to those at the top end of the lower tax bracket. Meaning that effectively this group has seen their incomes fall closer and closer to the minimum. Meanwhile those at the higher end and particularly the top one per cent have seen incomes rocket and monster bonuses. Like everything else in this country the lower to middle wage earners pay for everything either through taxes or having their wage squeezed.” - Kevin Reid

“I’m going on a council tax strike.” - Michael Catterson

“The amount of work has obviously increased for the staff who collect the waste but guaranteed their wage hasn’t changed. There are now too many different bins at every address that the council clearly can’t cope with the volume created by the new system they came up with themselves…I don’t blame the workers for striking at all, they’re being treated very badly.” - Kim Corbett
