WATCH: ‘I wouldn’t touch it’ - reaction to new Inverness driverless bus

We’ve hit the city centre streets to ask people about a pilot project to improve connections between Inverness Airport and the new airport railway station which is using a driverless bus.

Automated shuttle pods created by Aurrigo will be available for passengers to travel between the terminal and the train station - a distance of 1.2km - without having to wait or pay for the bus.

The pilot will see two types of “automated people movers” trialled, the smaller Auto-Pod and larger Auto-Shuttle at the Inverness Airport and the Inverness Campus - where another driverless bus was also trialled previously.

However, some Invernessians said they “wouldn’t trust the driverless bus” due to safety concerns.

One person said: “I wouldn’t touch it! There are enough idiots on the road driving.

“I know my wife wouldn’t touch one and I know a lot of people who wouldn’t, so I don’t think it’ll work.”

Another person added: “I don’t trust my wife driving, never mind a driverless bus.”

However, one couple that were quite keen to give the new initiative a go, said: “I would definitely give it a go, I think it would be fun and I’d probably trust them more than an actual driver.”
