One moment at the Queen's platinum jubilee could determine whether Boris Johnson leaves Downing Street.

As the Prime Minister was entering St Paul’s Cathedral for a thanksgiving service he was roundly booed by members of the public.

Despite overwhelming condemnation over his Partygate fine and huge controversy over changing the ministerial code it could well be the chorus of jeering that speaks the loudest.

That is because it came from the public themselves and members of the public largely seen as traditional supporters of British institutions, like the PM, who vote for MPs.

That was on Friday, by Sunday the chairman of the 1922 Committee of Conservative backbenchers, Graham Brady, had informed No 10 the threshold had been reached and enough Tory MPs now supported a vote of no confidence in their leader.

The news was confirmed this morning and the vote of confidence is scheduled for this evening involving all Conservative MPs.
