A 51-year-old Nairn man who embezzled thousands of pounds set to go to a charity has been fined £940.

William Spark, of Gordon Street, had sentence deferred for him by Sheriff Robert Frazer to pay £4000 in compensation to the mental health charity Mikeysline.

He had been convicted at Inverness Sheriff Court of the fraud by opening a bank account to take possession of the cash which was due to the charitable cause.

The offence occurred between September 11, 2020 and November 1, 2021.

Spark appeared for sentence before Sheriff Sara Matheson who said she had been briefed by her brother sheriff about the case.

Defence solicitor Duncan Henderson confirmed the money had been paid and had evidence to show the court.

Sheriff Matheson then said she would deal with it by a fine without making any further comment.
