Highland convener left battling Lymes Disease after tick bite

Aviemore's Highland councillor Bill Lobban has posted a graphic warning about the discomfort and the dangers of tick bites after an attack this week.

"With huge numbers of visitors arriving, many of whom have never seen a tick – far less experienced a bite – here's what an infected tick bite looks like.

"Many thanks to Aviemore Medical Practice for the prompt attention."

He told the Strathy today: "It's full-blown Lymes Disease. What a pain in the bum."

And in his case it was not contracted by walking the moors or the hills – the Highland Council convener was 'safe' at home.

"That's what you get for feeding roe deer in your garden," he said.

After the prompt attention from his local health centre, he explained: "The antibiotics are a pain - you have to keep out of sunlight - but I'll just have to wait and see how it goes."
