A suspicious parcel addressed to a Nairn woman was intercepted by police which led to a drugs search of her home.

Inverness Sheriff Court was told that officers obtained a search warrant for 31-year-old Marie Welsh's property after tests on the parcel proved positive for an illegal substance.

When her home was searched, heroin with a value of between £900-£1200 was discovered.

Welsh, of Rose Street, admitted being concerned in the supply of heroin on March 23, 2022.

Fiscal depute Sharon Ralph told Sheriff Sara Matheson that Welsh said to officers that she had been a heroin addict for three-and-a-half years and smoked it regularly.

Defending, Mike Chapman added: "She was selling the drug to feed her own habit. She has sought help but is not out of the woods yet.

"She needs some support."

Sheriff Matheson placed Welsh on a structured deferred sentence for intense social work involvement with her.

Welsh will return on October 17 when the court will decide what to do next.
