POLICE INCIDENT LATEST: 56 year-old man arrested after seven-hour armed police stand-off near Inverness city centre

A 56-year-old man has been arrested after a near seven-hour stand-off with armed police at a property near Inverness city centre.

Officers encircled the address between Kenneth Street and Muirtown Street, close to Telford roundabout, just before 12 noon with a huge police presence backed up by fire and ambulance crews.

Described as a “concern for person” incident, it is understood extra precautions were taken through fears the occupant held a firearm within the flat.

He was first taken to hospital before being arrested, with enquiries into the incident, which blocked a section of the A82 along Kenneth Street.

Smashed windows are visible at the property.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Around 11.50am on Thursday, 9 May, 2024, we were called to a report of a disturbance in the Muirtown Street area of Inverness.

“Emergency services attended and a 56-year-old man was taken to hospital.

“The same man was arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are ongoing.

“There is no wider risk to the public and locals are thanked for their patience.”

The road fully reopened at around 6.45pm.
