From New York City to the Portsoy Salmon Bothy - international guitar star Andy Clayburn is in concert at the bothy this Friday.

A TOP guitarist will arrive in Portsoy on Friday evening straight from New York City.

From the Beatles to classical concertos, Andy Clayburn can play it all to the highest standards. He is jetting in from his New York home to play this one-off gig.

An extra bonus for Andy is the rare chance to see his family, who stay near Portsoy.

He has had hits and TV programmes in Europe, but this amazingly talented player is virtually unknown in his own land.

He studied under guitar giant John Williams and plays everything from pop covers, classical themes, to his own songs and beautiful instrumentals.

Andy will certainly be guaranteed better weather than during his last visit to the bothy in December, when he had to trudge through several feet of snow to make the gig.

Anybody who was there will testify to his superb playing and singing – from Bob Dylan and the Rolling Stones to classical guitar standards, and his own songs.

Andy is now based in New York City, where he is constantly gigging and recording.

He started playing guitar aged 7, and went on to study the guitar at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, where his mentor was the legendary guitarist and composer John Williams.

Andy played a little known piece called ‘Cavatina’ to win a national student musical competition and John Williams then recorded it himself, and went on to have a huge worldwide hit with it.

Since then, Andy has gone to make his career as a musician, gigging all over the UK, in the Middle East, Cyprus, Germany, Africa and Turkey.

He lived for several years in Turkey, and sold over three million records in collaboration as an arranger and writer with other artists.

Andy and his bandmate Paul Dwyer became the first English duo to release an album singing original self-penned songs in Turkish. They became a household name in Turkey, with their own TV show, and reviews in Billboard magazine and National Press.

He has also released two albums with Sony in Europe, generating three radio hits and a tour with Suzanne Vega.

The concert starts at 7.30pm. Tickets £8 are on sale in the bothy.
