Inverness Caley Thistle goalkeeper Mark Ridgers delighted to keep tabs on the top of the Championship table after "massive" win over Dundee at Dens Park

Mark Ridgers has labelled Inverness Caledonian Thistle’s win away at Dundee a massive result for the club.

Caley Jags fans have seen a patchy start to the Championship campaign.

After easing through their Premier Sports Cup group, confidence was high in the Highland capital, but one win from their opening five league games put a dampener on any optimism.

However, victory away at Raith Rovers gave Inverness the opportunity to launch themselves back into the upper echelon of the table early in the season, and beating Dundee in a back and forth contest saw ICT leapfrog a side many are tipping for the title this season.

“It’s a massive three points for us,” Ridgers said.

“It hasn’t been a slow start to the season, just a wee bit up and down, but we’re three points off the top now. We’re seven games in and we’re still thereabouts after going to a place like Dundee.

“It was a good result for us, and I think it was deserved in the end because of how the boys never gave up.

“Many people were tipping Dundee for the title after coming down, so to pick up the win maybe makes up for the defeat against Morton at home.

“The way the results went on Saturday, it’s a massive win for us – but we’ve got plenty of games to go, it’s only the start and we can’t get ahead of ourselves.”

Dundee made the most of the threat they were posing at corner kicks to go in front, only for Cameron Harper – playing in central midfield – to hit back quickly with an impressive finish.

Inverness then went ahead through Billy Mckay’s penalty, but Dundee brought the scores level again in the second half, but again Harper found the net towards the end to win it.

“I had a busy second half, but if I can help the boys out I will,” Ridgers reflected.

“They help me out at times when I do crazy stuff, so I’m happy to do that too. To be able to contribute and help us go and get the points, it’s a good day all around.

“We know we’re a good team, we’ve just got to dig in. Some decisions have gone for us and some against us, but both teams got their fair share on Saturday.

“We’ve managed to nick it at the end through Cammy’s wonder goal, so now we can get ourselves sorted and ready for the cup next week.”
