HEAD coach Scott Kellacher says Inverness Caledonian Thistle are embracing the underdog mentality as they prepare to face the team top of League One for the second consecutive week.

Inverness are set to welcome Alloa Athletic, who are the new league leaders, to the Caledonian Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

It comes after Caley Thistle beat Cove Rangers 2-1 last week in Aberdeen, which saw Cove Rangers drop to second place.

Alloa moved one point clear at the top of the league last week following their 1-1 draw with Queen of the South in Dumfries.

The Wasps are also undefeated away from home in League One this season with Inverness undefeated in the league at home this season.

Inverness are bottom of the table due to their 15 point deduction after going into administration, but moved out of negative points on to one point following their win last week.

They are now 11 points behind Dumbarton in ninth with 23 games remaining.

After Saturday’s win at Cove, Kellacher says they are relishing the prospect of taking on league leaders again.

He says Inverness have a history of playing the underdog and they have to continue to embrace it.

He said: “One thing that this club has always been good at is having the underdog and siege mentality.

“We have always done well in cup runs and getting to the Premier League.

“It is good coming up against teams like Cove Rangers and Alloa Athletic that we know how big the games are. We are not saying we are going to do this and that. We will focus on what we can do ourselves.

“I keep going back to it, what we have achieved in the 30 years of this football club is incredible in terms of Europe, Scottish Cup finals, League Cup final and leagues that we have won.

“The club has had a lot of success and it is about getting back to what we are all about.

“It will take us time, but small steps will get us back to where we need to get to.”

Since being deducted 15 points after Caley Thistle went into administration, Kellacher says there has been extra emphasis in training on attacking as they look to claw back the points deficit with the rest of the division.

Having only won one of their three matches since going into administration, Kellacher says they know only wins will do to have a chance of avoiding relegation.

Speaking about the extra incentive on attacking in training, Kellacher said: “There has been in terms of they know they have to win games of football.

“Draws and losing games will not be good enough.

“We know what is at stake, we have to win games and we have to be as positive as we can and that is matched on the training ground as well. Doing certain drills will take us where we need to go.”
