MANAGER Duncan Ferguson says Inverness Caledonian Thistle getting their first league victory of the season can hopefully be the start of a winning run.

Billy Mckay’s first half strike was enough to give Inverness a 1-0 victory over Queen of the South at the Caledonian Stadium and their first win in seven matches in all competitions.

The win means Inverness are in fifth place, three points off the top of League One.

Ferguson hopes this can give them the confidence to go on a winning run and continue surging up the table.

He said: “It gives us a bit of confidence and it calms everyone down, you’ve got to get off the mark and calm everyone down.

“I thought we started really well in the first half and we went into the break 1-0 up.

“We had good possession throughout the game and created some good chances in the second half. At the start of the second half we deserved a second goal.

“I am pleased with the win and pleased for the players. We are only a few games into the season but we felt that pressure because we have not won that game. It is nice to get the three points.”

Ferguson was sent off in the final few minutes when he picked up a second yellow card after disputing a referee’s decision.

He said he felt referee Gavin Duncan was giving all the decisions Queen of the South’s way and he lost his temper.

“We did start panicking a bit and there was edgyness in the stadium as they were desperate for us to get the win.

“I got edgy myself as I felt in the last 10 minutes the referee gave them every decision and I lost my rag.

“I can’t remember what I said, they were stealing yards on from the line and every decision was going to them. It is not easy for officials.”

Ferguson also said he has been disappointed with the reaction from a minority of Inverness Caledonian Thistle fans during their winless run. But he praised the support the team got at the Caledonian Stadium this afternoon.

“I have been disappointed with some of the fans of their reaction in a couple of games and the last game in particular. But it is their club and they can support it the way they want to support it.

“Today they were very good, we got the goal and that brings them along with us.

“We have to try and keep winning games, we are three points off the top and only lost one game from a penalty which should never have been given and five games undefeated at home.”
